Author: Alex Nguyen Editor: Julian Ho In the past month, since joining Ms. Heather and Julian, I've been searching for a personal research project. There were so many things that I wanted to accomplish during my internship so I had a lot of trouble narrowing down my top choices. In the end, seeing what Julian was doing with the Assistantship program, it inspired me to do something similar with the SUPA program. SUPA is short for Syracuse University Project Advance. It is a program that allows high school students to take Syracuse University courses at their schools during their high school years. ISHCMC - American Academy is currently offering 5 SUPA courses (Economics, Entrepreneurship, Physics, Academic Writing, Creative Writing, and Web Design) for the 2016-2017 academic year with 33 registrations. My goal with the SUPA program is to be able to create a way for SUPA students to share, appreciate, and learn from each other’s work. I want to achieve this by creating an event called the SUPA Symposium where SUPA students from neighboring countries can come, showcase, and educate others about their work as well as learning about others’ work. Along with this, I want to create a journal called the SUPANOVA to publish these writings and accomplishments. I chose this project because from my time as a SUPA student, I was able to see such amazing and beautiful work being done yet no one to appreciate it. I hope that through this project, the SUPA program and its students will be better recognized for the wonderful effort that they have put in their education.
My first plan is to email all the SUPA teachers and ask them to nominate their best students’ work. Then, I’ll make a timeline of when I want to get everything done by and edit and proofread the nominated work.
